  • Waffle Wednesday. A Waistline-Friendly Version of this Childhood Favorite

Waffles—the tasteful nostalgia of Sunday morning breakfast as a child, making it the perfect pick-me-up for your mid-week slump.  Steering away from the sinful side of this delicious dish, we’ve substituted much of the flour for whole wheat and opted for a nonfat buttermilk creation.  With only 240 calories per serving, these waffles will satisfy your sweet tooth cravings without breaking your diet. Don’t have the time to whip this together before beginning your morning routine?  Enjoy breakfast for dinner and make the entire family happy…guaranteed.

    1 cup whole-wheat flour

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon baking soda

    2 cups nonfat buttermilk

    1 large egg, separated

    1 tablespoon canola oil

    1 tablespoon vanilla extract, (optional)

    2 large egg whites

    2 tablespoons Splenda

Stir whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a large bowl. Whisk buttermilk, the egg yolk, oil and vanilla (if using) in a separate bowl. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon just until moistened.

Beat the 3 egg whites in a grease-free mixing bowl with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Add sugar and continue beating until stiff and glossy. Whisk one-quarter of the beaten egg whites into the batter. Fold in the remaining beaten egg whites with a rubber spatula.

Preheat a waffle iron. Brush the surface lightly with oil. Fill the waffle iron two-thirds full of batter. Cook until the waffles are crisp and golden, 5 to 6 minutes. Repeat with the remaining batter, brushing the surface with oil before cooking each batch.

  • Taco Tuesday: A Healthier Alternative to Your Fav Mexican Fare

    What’s a Tuesday without a taco?

We’ve been using Taco Tuesday as the perfect excuse at adding a little fiesta into our work week siesta for years.  It’s a cheap, easy and fun way to have everyone looking forward to dinner. Here at RejuvaHealth, we’ve searched the recipe books to provide you with a simplistically delicious Mexican dish without the added calories that the entire guest list will enjoy.  Our secret?  Substitute ground beef for ground turkey and taco shells for low carb tortillas.  This will greatly reduce the fat intake and still provide the essential protein.  Did we mention that the each serving size is only 170 calories?  Seconds, please!

    Makes 6 servings

    • 1.5 lbs extra lean ground turkey
    • 6 low carb tortillas* (approximately 50 calories each, we used La Tortilla)
    • 1 1/2 tbs chili powder
    • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
    • 1/4 tsp onion powder
    • 1/4 tsp oregano
    • 1/2 tsp paprika
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • salt and pepper to taste

If you’d like your tacos to have a hard shell, place the tortillas in the oven so they drape from two bars of your oven rack. Broil for 3-5 minutes or until crispy and golden brown!

In a large nonstick pan, cook turkey meat on medium heat until brown. In a small bowl, mix together all the spices for the taco seasoning and add to turkey in the pan. Spoon turkey into your tortillas and top with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese!

  • That's So Trendy: A Forecaster's Prediction into the Trends of Spring 2013

    RAWR’ing 20s

With the biggest hyped movie of 2013, The Great Gatsby, coming out in May, there’s no doubt that people will gain inspiration from the movie’s impeccable costume design.  It was the golden age full of money and rebellion– a time when embellishments were plentiful, the bob was the “bee’s knees” and shoes were designed specifically for dancing.  Whether it’s a simple hair style or a red carpet dress, we foresee this flapper-style glamour making a comeback in full force.

    Sneakers? Sneakers. SNEAKERS!

If you’re one of those people that try really hard not to care, then the sneaker trend is something you’ll catch on to quickly.  At first glance (maybe even second glance), it looks as if the outfit is undone, but definitely by the third glance (okay, maybe the fourth) this look becomes quite appealing and peculiarly comical.  It’s the ultimate comfort shoe worn out of context…and we’re completely okay with it.

ATTEMPT THE TREND: Pair the sneakers with a simple sock.  Try the Solidea Active Power Unisex Sock

    A Hairy Situation

In 2012, many became victim of the ombre revolt.  This year, trendsetters are attempting a more unconventional look – pastels.  Whether it’s an all-over color or a few streaks, this trend is a little girls dream and a parent’s worst nightmare.  It’s definitely not something everyone can pull off, especially if you want to remain employed – although, if you’re willing to “go there”, we definitely tip our hats and commend you for your bold bravery.

    Nail Biter

Unless you’re Picasso, ambidextrous and extremely (extremely) patient, this one’s going to require some help – nail art.  It’s become the subtlest attempt at appearing fashion forward without having to go to the extreme of dying your hair purple.  So if you’re exceedingly detail oriented or have way too much time on your hands –no pun intended—go the extra mile at perfectly accessorizing your look from head to toe.

  • Prepping Yourself (Mentally) for a Healthier You in 2013

Like much of the population, you’ve probably made a New Year’s Resolution.  Similarly, like much of the population, you probably end up breaking it after a few months.

At RejuvaHealth, we’re all for helping you renew yourself – whether it’s by providing you with your favorite new compression legwear or just offering some helpful lifestyle tips.  So, for the many of you whose resolution is to “lose weight” or “get healthier”, we’ve comprised a few tips that will help you to mentally stay strong throughout the entire year.

Declare the New Year as a Fresh Start

You only get this chance once a year.  It’s like being able to press the reset button on your life (well, almost). This seems easy, right?  That is, until you head back to work with six additional pounds of holiday weight and can’t think of anything better than the couch and Breaking Bad on Netflix when five o’clock rolls around. Envision your life the way you want to see it – active and happy.  The option is solely up to you.  Empowering, right?  Open up the windows, power up your record player, pour a glass of wine (singular), relax, and cook a delicious and healthy meal.  It’s time to break free of habit.

    Work Up to Something

For the lucky few that are still college, spring break is just around the corner –go join an aerobics class. For the rest of us…what the heck is spring break?  If you’re looking to make a sharp three-sixty turn on your work out regimen, one of the simplest things you can do is sign up for a 5K race, color run, or mud run.  Running is a great way to increase the circulation in your legs and is a great cardio source for burning fat. An actual event will allow you to mark an official start and end date, making it possible to easily plan a day-to-day work out plan.  Once it’s complete, set a time goal for your next race and continue to work your way up.

    Find a Workout Buddy

Whether it be your partner, best friend, or random person on Craigslist (we don’t judge), having someone to work out with causes you to become more accountable and makes your work out more enjoyable.  Cheating was a thrill in grade school, but this is your work out we’re talking about here…pretty serious.  This person will keep your head in the game and give you a reason to get up in the morning.  They will push you to your limits and you will do the same for them.  It will be your most productive social hours, ever.

Stay (Almost) Away from the Scale

Keeping up with your weight can be extremely discouraging at first and, in some cases, can cause you to give up.  Our advice is to start with an initial weigh-in to get familiarized with where you are and set your goals for where you want to be.  It’s then a good idea to put the scale away for the first month of your workout and/or diet.  You sometimes don’t see the numbers go down on the scale, but after a few weeks of sticking to the schedule, you will feel it.  After the month is up, weigh yourself again.  If you’ve been strict on yourself, you’ve lost a pound or three.  This will give you the extra boost you need towards reaching your weight loss goal.  From there on out, gradually start to bring the scale out more often to keep you on track.

In 2013, we challenge you to finally become the person you want to be by being one of the few to stick with your New Year’s Resolution.  It won’t be easy, but before you know it, this challenge will begin turn into a lifestyle and you will be exactly where you’re supposed to be.

  • Sports Compression Garments for Any Workout

Motivation is crucial to any workout; although sometimes, it takes more than just personal dedication to get you to the gym.  Give yourself the extra boost by dressing for the occasion.  It’s like the first day of school; the only reason you ever looked forward to it was because of the new, perfectly planned outfit hanging in your closet.  Use this tactic for your workout.   Listed below are some of our favorite workouts paired with the perfect sports compression garment.

    Ballet Barre

This exercise has recently become all the rage, allowing for people to finally achieve the long, lean and beautifully sculpted body of a ballerina.  It uniquely combines multiple series of pliés (French for bending and straightening of the knees), stretches and core training with the use of graceful arm movements and pronounced posture.  If you attend a class, you’ll typically see everyone dressed in some style of legging.  The Solidea Silver Wave Corsaro Shaping Capri ($99) provides the majority of your upper leg with compression support, while allowing your feet and calves to be exposed for a free range of exercise.  Its micro-massaging fabric will help boost circulation and temporarily reduces the appearance of cellulite.  We’ve paired this item with a feminine and simplistic cardigan tunic by Zobha ($68).

It’s the exercise of the mind, body and spirit---a practice that allows you to find serenity in your surroundings while escaping to a world of total relaxation.  Those who practice yoga on a regular basis are known more patient, less temperamental, and more present in everyday life.  Focused on breathing, balance, flexibility and strength, the meditating state of mind allows you to extend beyond your physical body and achieve the impossible.  With a dedication to this lifestyle and workout, you will grow leaner, healthier and happier.  The RejuvaHealth Slimming Support Leggings ($79.99-$89.99) will provide compression while slimming the waist, thighs and calves.  We’ve paired the leggings with a tank from Luluemon ($58).

Need to clear your thoughts?  Jogging is the perfect excuse to do so.  There’s something about the rhythmic sounds of your breath along with the thrashing ponder of your feet hitting the concrete with each step.  So let’s say you weren’t “born a runner”…well, nobody is.  It will take a large amount of effort to achieve distance.  Based on experience, you don’t want to kill yourself in the process or you will end up hating it.  Build your endurance with baby steps at first and then work your way up.  Sign up for a 5K towards the beginning of the New Year and let that be your goal.  You will be surprised at what you achieve.  Most runners are frequent wearers of compression garments.  Therefore, the Solidea Active Energy Unisex Knee High ($62) allows for a good level of blood flow from the bottom up. Shown below is a Coldgear Longsleeve Mock from Under Armour ($49.99) to keep you warm on those morning runs.

To achieve the bodies of celebrity favorites like Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel, sign up for CrossFit.  This exercise focuses on replacing body fat with muscle in a series of dynamic weight lifting exercises.   Let’s be honest, Crossfit isn’t for sissies.  It will be a challenge and you will go to bed with aching muscles every night.  I know what you’re thinking---who wants that, right?  But, with time, you will learn to love that feeling.  After a months end, you and the people around you will see definite results.  We think that the Solidea Silver Wave Shorts ($65) are a great match for Crossfit workouts.  To go with it, we’ve paired the performance hoodie by Nike ($100).

  • RejuvaHealth to Offer its Health-Conscious Hosiery on QVC

(Lake Forest, CA – March 1, 2012) – RejuvaHealth, a company specializing in fashionable alternatives to traditional medical compression stockings, today announced they will be featuring six items from their latest line of patterned support tights on QVC next week. The innovative new collection of support hosiery is designed for health-conscious women of all ages and is aimed at providing benefits beyond those offered by traditional socks and pantyhose.

Company founder, Kelsey Minarik, is scheduled to debut light support variations of their patterned compression knee highs (QVC Item # A219628) & pantyhose (QVC Item #A219629) during the “Anything Goes with Rick & Shawn” show on QVC March 6 at 10PM (EST). QVC customers will have the opportunity to choose from three fun patterns, including a  “Sheer Floral,” “Sheer Dot,” and “Opaque Diamond” in sizes small through x-large during the airing. In addition, the new collection of RejuvaHealth support tights will be available on the company’s e-store at

Unlike normal fashion hosiery, RejuvaHealth’s tights are FDA-listed Medical Support Stockings containing graduated compression. Graduated compression can help mediate leg discomfort, reduce feelings of heaviness and tiredness in the legs, relieve leg swelling, energize legs, and combat occupational swelling & fatigue occurring from prolonged sitting or standing. The stockings are ideal for anyone seeking relief from these conditions and also provide a playful alternative to support styles offered by other companies.

Minarik was inspired to design the style-conscious support tights after being diagnosed with a leg condition for which her doctor recommended their use. Seeking relief, she began using the garments and immediately fell in love with the benefits they provided. “Initially after seeing how effectively the garments worked for me, I couldn’t believe more women didn’t know about these ‘super stockings’ and take advantage of their powerful benefits,” says Minarik. “I learned later that appearance was the product’s major downfall. Most compression stockings are only available in opaque, beige, or orthopedic looking styles,” she explains.

Determined to overcome this dilemma but unable to find anything on the existing market to satisfy her search for both fashion & function, Minarik developed her own. She launched the company’s debut line in December of 2010 and has continued to expand the brand’s offerings via additional product development in the year since. “Our stockings are ideal for the on-the-go woman who wants accessories that work as hard as she does. Why wear normal stockings, when you can wear tights that flatter your figure, complete your outfit, and renew your legs too?” quotes Minarik.   “I’m thrilled that we can now offer these many benefits to customers of QVC.”

RejuvaHealth, LLC is a California-based company specializing in the design of fashionable alternatives to traditional medical compression stockings. Their products are offered in three styles: knee high, thigh high, and pantyhose as well as 2 different compression levels: 15-20 mmHg (mild support) & 20-30 mmHg (moderate support). • Natural Remedies for Improving Leg Circulation

It’s Friday.  Apart from the occasional incoming call and the constant ticking of that annoying clock hanging on the wall beside your desk, the office is completely silent.  Unavoidably, your mind wonders away with conversing thoughts:  “What am I going to wear tonight?”, “Is Bigfoot real?”, “Wow, I should really shave my legs.”, and finally “These peanuts are making me thirsty!”.  Immediately, you jolt up from your miserably uncomfortable chair and attempt to make your way to the water fountain to refill your glass.  About .25th’s of a second later, your legs give out and you fall completely on your face.  “Asleep.  My legs are asleep!” you think.  Miserably embarrassed, you shake it off and try to play it cool in front of the rest of your co-works.  For the rest of the day, Barb, the older receptionist, insists on checking in on you every hour to see if you’re “doing okay”.  Sweet gesture, but can everyone just forget about it?  No chance.

Although most people think that their leg falling isn’t a big deal, it can be, especially if it happens often.  Sitting down for long periods of time can cause a loss of leg circulation and affect the nerve endings in that general area.  To prevent any serious medical issues from arising, compression legwear is always a good option.  But, if you don’t want to be confined to anything for the sole purpose of prevention, there are a few other options to improve your circulation.  Hold the drugs--these suggestions are “au natural” and everyone knows that’s soooo “in” right now.

Pretty obvious, right?  Mmm hm.  In the wise words of Nike, “Just Do It.”. Get up early before work and take in the beautiful day that’s ahead of you by going on a small run or walk.  Not a morning bird?  Good news, the time is about to change, making it brighter earlier, so you won’t be able to sleep in anyway!  Believe me, you will feel so much better about yourself mentally and physically, making your day that much better.

Two words: Butcher’s Broom.  I know what you’re thinking--Halloween’s over, right?  Yes, it is…but this is no hocus-pocus!  The herb Ruscus Aculeatus, taken three times a day, can be just as effective as prescription medication without any of the side effects.  Herb-a-liscious!

    Supplements and Food

Although the Flintstone vitamins are delicious, they just aren’t going to cut it.  Try taking vitamins C and E along with an anti-oxidant.  They specifically help to reduce the symptoms of poor circulation throughout the legs.  Not too fond of taking a vitamin?  Head to the farmers market and pick up fresh peppers, broccoli, strawberries, nuts, blueberries and beans!  Definitely a random list, but with a few additional ingredients you can really turn things around!

  • Style Your Stockings: Date Night 101 for your 60's +

    Date Night 101

You have worked hard to get to where you are today.  Now is the time to enjoy yourself and be proud of what you have accomplished in life.  For the past couple years, you and your husband have been donating to the ballet.  In return, you receive spectacular seats to all of the performances.  It’s opening night of Coppelia, and you and your husband have been really looking forward to attending.  But, your legs have been bothering you all day.  You know that you won’t be able to wear just any compression legwear with your evening outfit.  Thankfully, there’s RejuvaHealth.   Start with the RejuvaHealth sheer dot pantyhose.  They grace the overall outfit with taste and style while giving it a touch of youthfulness in the pattern (you don’t feel old…why dress like it?).   Keep things comfortable and classy with a flared black skirt that hits right below the knees.  Go with a beautiful white blouse to tuck into the skirt.  This allows for versatility when accessorizing the rest of the outfit.  Because it’s an evening affair, we decided to dress things up with the color gold.  A belt really brings the totality of the look together.  Because the rest of the outfit is so simple, we’ve chosen a pearl-encrusted belt that will fit right at the waist line, allowing for a slim, sleek and fashionable finish.   We are in the midst of fall, so the nights tend to get fairly cold.  Therefore, a lovely gold-buttoned cape will work perfectly since it’s easily accessible if you are planning on removing it once you get inside.   If you are looking to keep the height of your shoes at a minimum, a pointed black ballet flat is the ticket; you are at a ballet after all.  Although they add no height, they are still elegantly dressy and comfortable.  Finish off the outfit with a gold purse.  Don’t forget to bring your binoculars; you may have the best seats in the house, but you never know if you’ll need them. Sure, you’ve lived a lot over the past sixty years…but you’re not done yet!
