Staying Active and Feeling Your Best During Social Distancing

We are all, hopefully, practicing social distancing. Many of us live in places that are sheltering in place or at a minimum, salons and fitness centers have closed. Not having these outlets to burn off anxious energy or treat ourselves doesn’t help. Getting your body moving and your blood pumping releases endorphins and combats stress (which we could all really use right now!). We could do some sit ups, crunches or jumping jacks or paint our own nails, but why not have some fun and get creative!?

Take a look at the list of ideas below for getting some exercise, self care and maybe even a little social interaction while in isolation.

Zoom Workouts

I’ve been hearing about a lot of people connecting with friends by doing Zoom Workouts together and even gyms using it for group classes. Zoom is a video communication, remote conferencing service that offers a full-featured basic plan for free. Or try this Facebook page that offers free early morning (5am) LIVE online workouts via ZOOM led by a certified personal trainer.

Try something new

Maybe you have wanted to try out something new, like pilates, yoga, kickboxing or even jazzercise but were afraid to look silly in front of a group class. Fear no more! YouTube has loads of great videos to get your sweat on in the privacy of your own home. Hopefully you don’t have a judgey pet watching you!

Take a walk

Even if you live somewhere that is sheltering in place, you can still get out for some fresh air by taking a walk. The more fresh air you get, the more oxygen you will breathe which will increase the amount of serotonin (the happiness hormone) you inhale, thus making you happier. Here’s hoping the weather is cooperating where you live so you can get outside!

Have a dance party

Nothing is needed for this one except your favorite song. Turn up the volume and dance like no one is watching, because they aren’t, you’re social distancing, remember?

Take your home mani next level

If you’re like me, you have no shortage of nail polish colors to choose from, but why not step up your game and learn some fun new techniques? Many of the ideas here can be done with things you already have at home or check out  YouTube for a tutorial or Pinterest for some inspo.

DIY home spa

There are a number of things you can do to treat yourself right at home. You can get inspiration for making your own face masks and face scrubs or making your everyday routine feel more luxurious or head back to YouTube again for more ideas.

It is important to do our part by staying home but make sure you are being nice to yourself while doing so. Let us know in the comments what you are doing during this time to stay active and practice self care at home. Follow us on social media for new ideas every Monday!
